Key Takeaways

Worker’s Voice: “Recovering the Struggles of Immigrants”

The bulk of the steering committee discussion centered around potentially endorsing a public forum being hosted by Worker’s Voice. The topic, as the name above suggests, is about the history and the current state of immigrant rights and struggles.

The public forum can only be endorsed via a Side Quest, which requires a majority of non steering committee members to get on board. @chima created a forum post (linked here) to hold the vote remotely due to lack of general membership during this steering committee meeting.

Date: July 12th
Time: 11:00am

Challenging Data Center Construction

@Turcotte referred to a public event Stockton Mayor Fugazi hosted regarding data construction. No details were found or discussed during the meeting, but @Tanner emphasized looking into this matter further. Unlike with Flock camera contracts, WCU may have an opportunity to engage with this issue at an earlier stage of the process.

New Membership Pipeline

@ckposadas mentioned a few individuals WCU members have met during social events would could be recruited as new WCU members. He emphasizes the lack of a membership pipeline that prevents them from engaging with the organization.

Setting Agenda

Tenant Union Campaign Renewal

Tenant Union campaign needs to be renewed every six months. @ckposadas suggested getting WCU to engage with TU stuff due to a lack of other activities.

Fight Off Flock Campaign

Two main things were discussed: PRA requests and outreach. @chima briefed steering committee members about the piecemeal strategy WCU has chosen to take with the PRA requests. @ckposadas plans on sending the second batch of PRA requests tomorrow.

As for outreach, the discussion mainly focused on the petition and its release. Members felt comfortable about posting it on social media and sending it out via text/email blast. However, some members felt hesitant about requesting local orgs to join in. @chima felt that we should have a decent amount of signers in order to give the petition some legitimacy.

July 4th Parade

Inquiry about why planning for event was delayed. With @chima volunteering to attend the event, WCU has chosen to move forward with the plans. @ckposadas sent @chima the vendor application, which is to be sent either by mail or in-person.

Due date: June 19th
