Endorsing May 1st Workers' Day Event + Delaying General Meeting 1 Hour

This coming May Day, Luis Magaña and his organizing committee are leading a march downtown, pushing back against the anti-immigrant stances/rhetoric that is so prevalent today.

We have not yet formally endorsed any May Day activities, and his feels like a good opportunity to demonstrate solidarity with the farm workers and immigrants. It is a chance to lend our support and also a chance to speak with organizers and folks we otherwise are not in dialogue with.

Therefore, I propose the following:

  1. Endorse this May Day action: We will share their action across our social media and more importantly, attend the event!
  2. Logistics: Since this event is the same day as our General Meeting, I propose we delay our GM until 7PM on the same day.

Since this is pushing our meeting late, if there are enough people who play to attend May Day and stay for the meeting in person, we should order dinner.

To move forward with endorsing and rescheduling, we need 5 YES votes (quorum is 4), with a maximum of 2 YES votes coming from members of @WCU_Steering.

I vote yes. I can’t make this march, unfortunately, but I agree with Reilly that we should be doing something for May Day.

Thanks everyone, that’s more than enough votes! The march looks like it will be starting at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza that’s just north of the movie theater downtown.

Please wear your WCU shirts if you got em. We’ll move over to our General Meeting at 7PM after the rally.
