WCU Reading Group - Who’s going to be the lesser of two evils in 1968? - Thursday, June 20, 2024

Hey y’all The next reading group meeting is Thursday June 20th @ 8pm on Zoom

We are reading “Who’s going to be the lesser of two evils in 1968” by Hal Draper
It’s about why voting won’t save us, and why electoralism sucks.

If you’re interested in attending please let me know ahead of time, or if you have scheduling conflicts and cannot attend.

We will be reviewing the text during the meeting so if you haven’t had time to finish it (it’s pretty short though) you’ll still be able to understand the text while we discuss.

One of my critiques of this article is that it’s very old.
It says that Reagan acted like a new deal democrat because that is the only way the system can run, but with 40 years of hindsight we know this not to be the case.
It does identify the rise of the neo-liberal, even if it doesn’t state it as such (the term hadn’t been coined yet), but fails to foresee the rise of reactionary conservatism as a response to neo-liberal hegemony.
