Nominations (1:22)
@Tanner and @Joanna went over the nominations that were accepted, rejected, and not responded to.
All Nominations
@SeanHun did not accept his nomination for Secretary, and @ckposadas did not accept his nomination for Membership Coordinator.
After deliberation among the nominated WCU members,
-
@Adri_Martinez withdrew her acceptance of the Secretary and Treasurer positions
-
@Tanner withdrew his acceptance of the Secretary position.
This left all but the Educational Coordinator position as uncontested races.
A. New Educational Coordinator
In a 6-3 vote, @Englishpete08 ended up winning the election and kept his position as Educational Coordinator.
Debate
@Englishpete08: He says he felt uncomfortable selling himself to get reelected. Due to personal circumstances, he feels he has not accomplished as much as he wanted to in 2025. He has ideas for the next year but says he finds himself struggling to do the work on his own.
@HipGnosis: He says he can’t make a good argument as to why he should be elected for Educational Coordinator like Pete because he thought didn’t do a good job as Membership Coordinator. He explains that he has had ongoing critiques of how WCU has been run and would like to use the position of Educational Coordinator to explain the rest of membership why. Enjoys education more than membership coordination.
Side note: Due to the comments @EnglishPete08 made during his speech, @Adri_Martinez brought up the idea of the Educational Coordinator (and maybe all the Steering Committee positions) being occupied by two people instead of one. @Turcotte explains that this would require changing the bylaws.
Acclamation Vote
The uncontested positions of Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Coordinator, and Campaign Coordinator were all motioned in via a single acclamation vote to streamline the voting process. Everyone in favor.
First Motion: @Robert_H
Seconded: @chima
Final steering committee results
Renewing Tenant Union Campaign
Membership unanimously voted to renew WCU’s Tenant Union Campaign.
First Motion: @chima
Seconded: @HipGnosis
Discussion
@ckposadas reflected on the fact that 2025 saw a decent amount of individual, short term victories which we failed to capitalize on the get collective, long term victories. He explained that the lack of communication between WCU and the tenants prevented us from maintaining the tenant associations beyond the original problems that motivated their creation.
Scheduling Events (40:10)
New Member Open House - Decided to give New Member Orientations a new name and postponed deciding on a date until the next general meeting - deciding between Feb 12th and Feb 22nd
Coffee with WCU for Feb 14th - specific time to be decided the following month
Non-calendar activities (55:09)
KYR Side Quest
Context: The Check-in booth is continuing to go; there was a discussion about broadening the volunteer pool.
D. Motion: send an email blast to contacts to recruit volunteers for the check-in booth.
Seconded:
Result: approved
E. Motion: hold a community forum co-planned with the Solidarity Committee (date to be decided after)
Seconded: @HipGnosis

Voices of the Working Class
There was a brief discussion about Flock cameras and surveillance and possibly WCU writing about the issue. There was a discussion about shifting our writing from only being org-wide to letting writers choose and write their own articles and then brining the drafts back for group approval.
End of Year Review (1:07:08)
Pros: Tenant union progress and the tangible wins we had; that the check-in booth was up and running so quickly; we published one article that had 11,000 views
Cons: forum and process friction; limitations with scheduling; not enough comms and engagement with public
