July 6th Know Your Rights Event

Several folks how worked on starting to lay out the documentation for the July 6th event. We need to finish this before EOD of Wednesday so we can actually get materials printed! We’re documenting the thread here.

Community/Coalition Meetings

  • Goal: Hold some sort of meeting inviting active members of the community to share their issues/projects so we can build connections, provide feedback and assistance, and generally break down the silos we all work in.
  • At the upcoming General Meeting, we are spending significant time going over how we want to organize these meetings.
  • Action Items
    • Please read through the comments so far (here) and leave your thoughts in the thread so we can wrap up this discussion in a timely manner during the General.

“Why Liberals Lose” WCU Article

  • Goal: Write quarterly articles that allow WCU to offer a unique perspective or contribute meaningfully to local/left discourse (details here).

  • We finished an initial outline/draft for our WCU article on Why Liberals Lose. This is the outline we have so far. You can read the rough draft written following this outline in the Google doc linked here.

  • Action Items

    • There is one more meeting to go over the outline:
      • June 30th (Monday) - 6pm-8pm | Working Meeting - “Why Liberals Lose” Article Review (Calendar)

Union of Unions Outreach

  • Goal: Create a database of local unions for ease of future research. Establish connections with them so we can support each other during strikes/actions/events.
  • On Monday, we will start to send out emails to the unions we have contact information for.
  • Action Items
    • We still do not have contact information for many of the unions. You can update the local union directory here by following the directions for “Continue updating union database” in this post.

Organizing Conversations Training

  • Goal: Should be a cornerstone of our work, and now we will finally have training on how to have organizing conversations for members, tenants, and any members of the public that want to participate.
  • You can review the latest draft and the discussion around organizing conversations here.
  • Action Items
    • July 26th (Saturday) - 10am-12pm | Organizing Conversations Workshop/BBQ (Location TBD) (Calendar)

Unionizing Workplaces

  • Goal: To develop resources for workers aiming to organize their workplaces.
  • We have started working on developing material that explains unions and the benefits of organizing, alongside a plan for how WCU could help workers organize. Both documents are linked here.
