We can’t do this without a month notice ahead of time, totally forgot. I propose changing it to “DeFlock: propose a focus campaign or extend the side quest.”
A Focus campaign vote can only happen after we announce it one General Meeting beforehand. So tonight we can decide:
- Develop a focus-campaign proposal: announce the adoption vote for the next General Meeting and prepare a proposal.
- Extend DeFlock as a side quest: approve a work plan, with clear goals and a review date.
- Nominations committee: Membership must vote to establish a two-member committee at least two General Meetings before the election. On our October–November–December schedule, that means appointing it tonight. The committee oversees nominations; all members in good standing may nominate candidates.
- Election and terms: Steering Committee elections take place in December, with the elected members serving the following fiscal year: January 1–December 31, 2027.
- Positions: The five offices are Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and Campaign Coordinator.
- Eligibility: All members in good standing may vote, nominate candidates, and hold office.
- Voting: A candidate must receive more than half of valid votes cast. Abstentions do not count toward that majority.
Additional Items
Update the published bylaws
We need to update the published bylaws to incorporate the amendments approved in April. We do not need to vote on those amendments again; we need to assign someone to incorporate all the approved changes.
Flock Updates
- Continue collecting signatures online and invite signers to Coffee with WCU, Game Night, and other existing social events, not only outreach events. Update the signup confirmation and follow-up messages to include an invitation to join WCU.
- Put the previously discussed schedule into practice. Rotate campaign explanations, records updates, local news, national news, always with a CTA to sign.
- Use our existing list to offer presentations, ask organizations to share the demand letter, and arrange discussions with interested members or organizing committees.
- Publish a short social post explaining when our Public Records Act requests were submitted, how long they have been pending, and what responses we have received (PRA new review system?)
- Draft a proposal implementing all five campaign demands. Prepare the Council submission process, but wait to present the proposal until a solid group of supporters has committed to attending.
