During our first Educational Committee meeting, we would like to tackle building out our Tenant Union Reading List. This is not only for new members, but also for us so we have a firmer grasp on how and why we are organizing our own tenant union.
Below are a list of articles that were suggested by the Communist Caucus that we will be using as a jumping off point. There is also a link at the bottom with many more references you may find more interesting. We just ask everyone reads at least one article prior to the meeting so we can discuss what we learned and start fleshing out our educational program.
Beginner
- Sarah M., Nick W., and Justin G. – Tenant Power is Proletarian Power: Autonomous Tenants Unions Against the Landlord Class
- Davis, Mike - Tenant Organizing, Rent Strikes and the Workers Movement
- Rosenthal, Tracy - 101 Notes on the LA Tenants Union
Intermediate
- Gilmore, Justin – Class Organization and Rupture on the Terrain of Housing
- Zhirabor – Connecting American Tenancy With Palestinian Struggle
Advanced
You can also read anything from our ongoing reading list in this document. If you find articles relevant to tenant organizing that would like to include, please add them to the bottom (you can use the suggestion feature if you do not have edit access yet).
