Side-Quest: LivingWageforLUSD Campaign

Thanks @ckposadas and @Tanner for meeting to update our plan for this over the weekend.

Google Doc with Meeting Notes

We focused on finalizing the plan for the “soft launch” of the Living Wage for LUSD campaign at the upcoming board meeting on Tuesday.

Tanner’s Speech: Tanner said he wants to focus on the impact of low wages and avoid direct attacks on the superintendent’s salary (for now) to allow for future escalation. He is going to try to leverage the district’s own slogans against them.

WCU’s Role & Tech: For the rest of WCU, we will show up, print out the flyer described in the google doc, and create a form on SolidarityTech so that Tanner can collect contact information. For the people that say they want to join the OC, Tanner can then contact them directly with his personal number and just ST for text blasts.

Timeline & Strategy: The plan is to use the Tuesday board meeting as a starting point. Tanner then plans to talk to the local president and other members at the next CSEA general meeting next Wednesday, just before contract negotiations reopen on Thursday the 16th. The goal is to build a rank-and-file caucus to pressure both the school district and the union leadership to fight for a more substantial wage increase.
